Reflecting successes in its first year, the Orange ButtonSM initiative received a “green” status during its latest review. SGIP was one of four organizations selected by the DOE Sunshot Initiative to lead Orange ButtonSM, along with SunSpec Alliance, kWh Analytics, and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL).
If the management of solar data is streamlined, it can boost the bankability of solar projects, thereby attracting investment. But for that to happen, developers, asset operators, utilities, financiers, solar companies, entrepreneurs and more must work together to define a solar data taxonomy that meets the needs of all participants in the solar project lifecycle.
Major milestones met by SGIP and the project team include:
- Successful outreach, recruiting and marketing efforts to achieve industry participation and awareness
- Development and publishing of the Orange ButtonSM Scoping Study
- Working with solar industry stakeholders in SGIP requirements groups to develop use cases supporting the Orange ButtonSM Market Requirements document
SGIP and the other Orange ButtonSM awardees will work in 2017 to further promote industry awareness and participation, finalize and develop the Orange ButtonSM solar data taxonomy, and encourage adoption of the taxonomy and use of the Solar Data Exchange.
